Burroughs: the Movie

Hi, I'm a big fan of all things W.S. Burroughs-related and thus support almost anything Burroughsianesqueish.  So I say maybe it's time for me to get behind the things I care about.  I guess I'm adult enough for that, eh.

Check out the kickstarter page for the restoration of 1983 cult classic William Burroughs documentary and donate if you've got money like that:

i used to have this dog.  he was really very stupid.  at the same time, i'm pretty sure that's why i liked him so much.  there wasn't any pretense.  he whimpered because he wanted my attention, my approval, etc.

so why all the pretense. is caring a crime?

Xtianity

Say what you will about christianity, the continuing degradation of society's moral compass is due the continuing degradation of the faith.

Do I sound like a doofus already?  Well keep reading.

I'm not talking about heaven or hell here.  I'm not saying we all need to be saved.  I'm not even really a christian myself when all is said and done.  What I'm talking about is what those bible stories instilled in me when I was a child.  Morals.  A sense of right and wrong.  Did they possibly "brainwash" me in other areas?  Yes.  But there is no perfect system.

When I talk about morality, I'm not talking about not letting the gays get married.  Or any other crap that the christians seem to focus on too much that doesn't really matter.  I'm talking about trust.  Everyone is so constantly paranoid because they're afraid someone is going to screw them over in some way.  This is because we all continue to lack morals.

All in all, there needs to be a form of the faith that focuses more on what's right and wrong updated for today's age.  I want the gays to be married, among many other doctrines that are just so out of date.  What we need is to be able to trust each other again.  And it starts back when we're children and most impressionable.  I don't want to be told what to do and not to do just because... that's it.  If anything, that's why we all need a little faith.

New ambient comp, "Val," coming soon...

So http://kikapu.org/ is releasing my new ambient comp album sometime this lovely month of February. It's simply called "Val" and it will be a single 49 minute track composed of some of my personal favorites through the years. Stay tuned.

On another note, I will be doing a top 10 albums of 2011 list sometime. I've listened to a handful of other albums and it's slightly changed... pics and little comments coming soon.

Watching, listening 12-16-11

Probably what's so great about Beavis and Butthead is people can both enjoy at its very base level, and others can enjoy it for its satire. I couldn't really enjoy either growing up though, but now that the show's back on I'm finally truly discovering it. The new episodes are fantastic and now I'm going back to the original starting at the beginning. Here's a full (old) episode, not sure how long it will be up though:

Others: House (1977 Japanese film)

Up there for taking the honors of worst band to do a search for, The The, is what I'm listening to at the moment. This song and the album it comes from mainly. Just some interesting left of the dial 80s pop music. This guy was definitely not with the times and maybe that's what's so interesting. Looking forward to listening to some other albums.

Others: Peter Gabriel, Tangerine Dream, Frank Black, etc

Now watching, listening...

Watching a lot of Bergman lately. Still in the middle of this one:

Scenes from a Marriage: never been married but it's still an interesting subject to explore, for anyone that has been a long/lasting relationship. Of course, this one is a sham as many can be, as it lacks love. Some pretty heavy stuff; not for the squeamish.

Also watching: ATHF, new Beavis and Butthead, other Bergman.

M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming: this guy always has some fantastic tunes. The first single is so good. Haven't listened to the whole album yet, but I'm working on it.

Also listening: Destroyer, Girls, Cut Copy, Kurt Vile, Grouper, Gang Gang Dance.

Finally came up with an idea for this blog-thing here. Now listening, now reading, now watching, etc posts. I'll start off with a now listening because I've been going through a number of '11 releases. First off:

Kate Bush - 50 Words for Snow: A little disappointed with this one at this point but it may still grow on me. There aren't really any drop-dead gorgeous melodies, which is kind of sad. But at the same time Kate is developing as an artist, which is good for her at least. I hope she can put out more releases at a quicker pace now that she has her own record label.

David Lynch - Crazy Clown Time: Nice little album that reminds me of Residents at points. A number of quiet, dark songs with Lynch's nasally vocals on top. Pleasantly surprised with this.

Others: Listening to my own best-of album called "Val" coming out sometime on kikapu netlabel. New Tom Waits is decent. St. Vincent's new album has some really good tracks and some blah. etc

we all have small to large character flaws. it's just that your stupidity corrupts you of ever knowing that; this is why we argue; this is why we war.

at first you just want a friend. then you get a little older and you just want a girl.
but your shitty friends continually bring you down and insult any of your attempts at happiness.
in some cases, they even fuck up your chances with the girl you really want.

next, you realize women aren't as wonderful as you once thought they were, that they too are human and even if you somehow someway had some sort of relationship with one, all your problems would still be there, and perhaps even more considering how fucked up she may be too. so you end up hating women too.

so now you just want to be alone. but the world has beaten you and degraded you so much that you now also hate yourself. and you realize you just want to be dead; but that's not an option. so you laugh, because it feels better than crying. and you laugh at everything and never give them any satisfaction of a reaction besides laughter. and because you laugh people think you are an imbecile and find you boring and you're alone again. and finally, you realize you just want to be alone, because out of all the things and people you hate, you can still at least put up with yourself.

most of the time.

Civilization

when you consider how few people want to “dive” in to anything
and just want a nice little bowtie on the surface
and now you’re told you’re the crazy one for wanting a bit of depth
maybe then you’ll realize why they all just want
a little knot tied loosely on the surface
and then you grow up
or die young

civilization was chiseled into law by men who could not look outside the box
but it was not created by them

My car is broken, I have no job, and in the next two days I will have negative dollars to my name.
